Moisturiser

The perfect Finishing Touch

Moisturiser is the perfect finish for both new and restored timber that works completely differently from varnish or polyurethane; instead of forming a skin on the timber, it absorbs deep into the grain to create a mellow glow that feels like silk; Moisturiser is like ‘Skin care for wood’.

Cooper’s Moisturiser is non-toxic and is suitable for most interior and exterior timber surfaces*, simply apply the Moisturiser and leave the wood to absorb what it needs, then buff away the surplus, it really is that easy, anyone can do it.

Maintaining a moisturised timber surface is easy, simply keep the timber fed with additional Moisturiser as needed, the additional Moisturiser absorbs into the existing Moisturiser and never builds up like an oil or varnish, this means there's no ugly built-up coating to crack or peel.

A Moisturised surface actually improves over time and will develop a patina that truly is the perfect ‘Finishing Touch’

How Much Moisturiser Does Your Project Need?

Allow 1 litre per 8 m² of timber surface — which includes plenty for application plus spare for future maintenance:

Size

Covers approx.* Typical projects
500ml 4 m² Three chairs or a dining table or a single door
1L 8 m² 6 chairs or a door with architraves surrounds
2L 16 m² 2 doors or 2 large windows or a full dining suite
5L 40 m² Whole-room woodwork

*Based on what we typically see for projects stripped first with Cooper's Stripping products. New or especially dry timber may be more thirsty and require more.

In the Wood, Not On It

Most finishes entomb your woodwork in an artificial-looking film, a frail coating that can water-mark, scratch, crack, yellow, but will eventually fail, putting you right back on the restoration treadmill.

Moisturiser protects from within instead:

  • It looks great. The wood's natural colours come up rich and inviting - no plastic gloss, no artificial film.
  • It feels incredible. You're touching a silky-smooth surface, not like a brush on coating such as polyurethane which can feel rough in comparison.
  • It lasts. Simply maintenance breaks the restoration cycle.
  • It's foolproof to apply. Brush on the Moisturiser: the wood takes what it needs, and then 48 hours later you buff off any surplus. No brush marks, no runs, no skill required - you can even apply it in dusty conditions, or pre-finish the woodwork before installation.
  • It's safe. Non-toxic and low-odour - safe for everyone in the house while you work.
  • It saves money. Per finished square metre, Moisturiser is cheaper than three coats of an average polyurethane or oil.

Maintenance is easy, simply keep the timber fed with additional Moisturiser when the timber looks lack lustre, the additional Moisturiser absorbs into the existing Moisturiser and will never build up like an oil or polyurethane, this means there's no ugly built-up coating to crack, peel or fail.

The frequency of the maintenance will depend on how exposed the timber is, a ceiling will be many years between feeds, while a sunny window might be every year or so. Whatever it needs, your woodwork keeps looking great - without ever needing to be stripped again. What other finish can say that?
